Tips-n-Tricks Tuesday: Baking Soda

Have you ever looked up to see all the good things baking soda can be used for? Many people put it in the fridge to deter odors, but it is so good at deodorizing other things too. Sprinkle some in your smelly shoes, sprinkle some on your smelly clothes to "pre-soak" them, or use it as deodorant (it sounds weird, but works AMAZING!) These are just a few ideas. What do You use it for?

  1. I've heard of baking soda for deodorant but I've never tried it! Do you have a recipe you use?

I use a pinch of baking soda with my normal facewash to get rid of dead or flaky skin on my face and it works great mixed with your shampoo (about a Tablespoon or two) to get rid of product buildup and keep hair bouncy and squeaky clean! :)

Baking soda is such a great all-purpose cleaner and so inexpensive too! I know there are many uses I don't even know of! I've heard adding it to your laundry is good too but I'm not sure the how-to of that yet.

I really like your blog and your style of writing! Keep up the practical encouragement, I would like to visit more often.

Nope, no recipe. It sounds odd but I just poof it on! Ha ha! I know there are recipes out there but I haven't tried one yet. It works just fine for me without anything else added, though I've heard that for some people it can be too harsh :/ (I generally have sensitive skin though that dries out easily, so I'm not too sure about that theory).

I love it though because I can use it even after I start to stink and it works just dandy (as long as my clothes aren't smelly yet!).

I will have to try using baking soda on my face. That is a great idea.

I've heard of it for washing machines too but I think it has to be washing soda? I'm not really sure though. Seems good 'ole baking soda would work just fine too.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

    Blessings,
    Bethany

  3. Oh yes, I've heard of washing soda too. Maybe that's what it is! :) Hmmm, I have problems with deoderant working sometimes so I may have to try that baking soda trick ;)
My favorite way to use baking soad is in biscuits! :D here is my favorite recipe:

    Southren Style Biscuits
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons sugar
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup buttermilk or soured milk

Directions: Heat oven to 450 degrees. Mix all dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender (or you can use your fingers, that works too) until the mixture looks like meal. Stir in the milk till mixture rounds into a ball an dno dry ingredients remain in bowl. Round up dough onto a floured board or counter and knead lightly for about 20-25 times, roll into a 1/2 inch thick round and cut with the floured mouth of glass or a biscuit cutter. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet (We use a Pampered Chef baking stone. Works great!) about 2 inches apart. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Yeah, definitely try the baking soda. I had tried various healthy and non-antiperspirant deodorants, but none could do the trick for me until I tried the baking soda.

Yummy sounding biscuit recipe. It sounds similar to our family's favorite, but ours doesn't have sugar or baking soda in it, and the milk isn't soured/buttermilk. I'll have to give that one a try some time. Thanks!
